Hello, beautiful soul!

My name is Latoya (but you can call me Toya). Born and raised in St. Catherine, Jamaica, I now call Ontario, Canada my home. As a wife, mother and homeschooler of two wonderful boys my days are filled with love, laughter and at times chaos but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My journey with crochet began as a teenager, because it was a part of my school curriculum; however, I thought I was way too cool for crochet. I stopped shortly after and did not pick up a crochet hook until 2019, which became a blessing and my source of peace for the following few years.

As I learned and developed my skills, free handing became my passion. It allowed me to draw on another skills I learned as a child which was sewing and self drafting patterns. This allowed me to explore my creativity, which is something I felt I had lost.

I started my crochet business in 2021 as a pattern designer; however, as much as I loved crocheting,  something didn’t feel right. I quickly felt burnt out and overwhelmed which led me to step away from writing patterns.Things started to shift when I uploaded my first free hand tutorial, which reminded me of what I’m most passionate about and that is teaching others how to make garments that fit exactly how they want. I also love to teach  knowledge based skills that we often shy away from.

Toya in stitches is more than a business, it is a place where crocheters of all skill levels can learn and grow by sharing knowledge and offering support through the craft that we all love.

In addition to crochet, I am a self-professed "Jack of all trades," finding joy in an array of interests – from sewing, diamond painting, reading, baking, yoga and learning to nurture plants.

My journey is just beginning. I see a future filled with the transformative power of creativity and community, and I am honoured to share it with you. I invite you to join me as we embark on a quest of learning, growing and infinite possibilities.
