The Easy Everyday Wash Cloth Pattern
I’ve always liked making washcloths, especially in between big projects. They are quick to work up so you get that I finished a project feeling which then motivates you to get back to those unfinished WIPs.
The thing with wash cloths and dish cloths is finding the right stitch pattern combined with the right tension so that when they get wet you don't end up with huge hole in the fabric.
That's why I love this pattern, because these wash cloths are sturdy and squishy and have minimal holes when wet.
The crunch stitch offers everything you need in a wash cloth stitch pattern. It is worked by alternating single crochet and double crochet stitches in a row. By working tall double crochet stitches beside short single crochet stitches the double crochet stitches bend giving the the fabric a nice soft texture which is great for exfoliating the skin or scrubbing dishes.
The crunch stitch also has a lot of stretch without holes which not only makes it great for wash cloths but it can be used for any project that needs stretch without holes from squishy scarves and sweaters to socks and baby blankets.
The Everyday washcloth pattern is easy, beginner friendly and it also shows you how to add a sturdy hanging loop.
The finished size for the wash cloth is 8" x 8" (20 x 20 cm) . If you chose to only make a swatch or make something bigger, the crunch stitch is worked over a multiple of 2 plus 1 for your foundation chain so just add or subtract chains as needed.
To make my wash cloths I like to use worsted weight mercerized cotton but any 100% cotton will work just fine. If you are making a swatch to test out the stitch pattern or planning a larger project you can use any yarn and corresponding hook.
